Aircraft Carrier units, usually called Carrier, are direct combat or indirect combat ships depending on the game. Their purpose is carry air units and refuel them, though they can attack air units as well. Outside Dual Strike, they can repair loaded air units.

In Game Boy Wars 1/2/Turbo, they can load most but not all air units.

In Game Boy Wars 3, there are two sizes of Aircraft Carriers, both expensive. Both sizes have good AA, a powerful auxiliary machine gun that can be used to devastate coastal Lite Land units, and the ability to hold at least 3 air units. However, they can't load large planes.

In Advance Wars: Days of Ruin they can produce Seaplanes, but can't move on the same day where they do so. However, air units that were loaded at the start of the day can move off as if they weren't loaded, up to and including attacking. This ability requires the Aircraft Carrier to not have moved yet. (Note that this ability was around in Game Boy Wars 3 without the aforementioned restriction, but it was available to every transport.)

They have appeared since Advance Wars: Dual Strike, though they have had a past appearance in the Game Boy Wars series. They are the most expensive units so far, although not so much in Game Boy Wars 1/2/Turbo.
