Famicom Wars Guide on StrategyWiki |
Famicom Wars, the very first Nintendo Wars game, was released in Japan in August 1988 for the Famicom, the Asian equivalent to the Nintendo Entertainment System. It was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo, and a lot of what is present in Advance Wars harkens back to this game.
While this game was never released outside of Japan, a translation became available in 2006, which opened up the previously little-known game to Western audiences. The game was eventually re-released for the Virtual Console on May 19, 2009.
Gameplay
With the player controlling either Red Star or Blue Moon, the two countries fight over the course of fifteen maps. Two additional maps are unlocked after completing the Campaign with either country.
Legacy
The turn-based gameplay that Intelligent Systems developed for Famicom Wars is very similar to that found in the Fire Emblem series.
The maps found in this game and Super Famicom Wars are also found in all the Advance Wars games, including Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
