Policy Suggestion

After pasting enough links to pages ending with "!" I've been thinking you guys should just dump that and have redirects to all of the pages like Blizzard Battle! redirect to Blizzard Battle. just a thought. Axiomist 20:18, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

The only thing I would say is that is as accurate as you can get regarding the mission names- they do have the punctuation in. I was thinking about whether we should just not use it, though. (Also, from now on there's a Wars Wiki forum for this sort of thing over at the forums) JoJo 21:05, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I would only change the names if the !s are affecting wikicode for things like tables, which they shouldn't, as most are inside double brackets for links. Hotchmoney 16:43, 7 March 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Welcome Bot

I am aware of the text which is displayed in the edit summary when a user registers, but this is much better. It creates the user's talk page and makes them feel more like they are being welcomed by people. I think it would be awesome if Wars Wiki could have a welcome bot similar to WiKirby's. It could use a Welcome template, which is constructed and used by the template which actually codes it. When in use, the bot will create the user's talk page automatically when they join, as I said above, as well as other bot things which I myself understand little about. If you decide that Wars Wiki will have a bot like this, please say so and I will try to get a hold of Adam (the NIWA's tech master in my opinion), where he can help you program it. I think Axiomist and Justin also may be able to help too, so it should be easy enough. Austin 04:15, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I know nothing about bots, but I could write up a template like Bulbapedia's Template:Welcome as an alternative. Easier, but someone would have to remember to check the Recent Changes periodically, and add it to the new users' talk pages. — KC 15:26, 2 August 2010 (PDT)
The one on Bulbapedia is good, but the text would need quite a lot of changes until the wiki grows more (there isn't a 'team of staff' just yet, or a userspace policy). The bot works by placing the Welcome template on peoples' talk pages automatically, via a series of templates, hooks and MediaWiki namespace pages. Here's the MediaWiki site's page on the extension used, if you want to look into it. Although if the bot's decided against, I check RecentChanges quite regularly, and can help with doing it manually. Moydow 18:38, 2 August 2010 (PDT)
As the one who proposed it, I highly support this motion. I will now leave the decision to the rest of the community and thier administrators. Austin (NIWA Operative) 22:01, 3 August 2010 (PDT)
Sure, I like the sound of that! Go for it, and if you need me to do anything PM me just to make sure you get my attention! ^^ JoJo 14:13, 5 August 2010 (PDT)

Good job on the new main page!

Well done with the new main page- it looks amazing with all of it's templates full. Good going! --JoJo 10:54, 7 August 2010 (PDT)

Thanks, glad you like it. =) — KC 21:06, 7 August 2010 (BST)

So, who exactly can edit this page?

Just wondering, since the list of wanted topics now needs updating since I finally got around to sorting Isabellaa's article.

Incidentally, NoA's name changes irritate the hell out of me. -- Nebula 04:01, 8 August 2010 (BST)

Everyone, apparently. And if you want to edit the list of wanted pages, you'll need to go to Template:Main Page/Ongoing Work because everything is on separate templates. Moydow 04:25, 8 August 2010 (BST)

Copying from other wikis

Can I just ask that when we copy templates etc across from other NIWA wikis, we at least change wording, colouring, and such? I know that the point of NIWA is for people to be happy to help each other, but even so the least people can do is make things a bit more unique for Wars Wiki. What brought this up to me is how the main page is exactly the same colouring as Bulbapedia's, and very, very similar in positioning of sections, and Template:Admin being exactly the same as Zeldawiki's template page.

It's not much to ask, I would hope, and it would improve Wars Wiki as a whole, I'm sure. ~JoJo 17:49, 18 August 2010 (BST)

Current Activity

I'm sorry if I seemed to have forgotten about Wars Wiki, I had much to do elsewhere on the internet and in real life. After a post from the NIWA forums, I see that Wars Wiki's activity appears to be going down again. As both a member and staff of another wiki, I simply cannot believe this. As part of the NIWA, our purpose is to make sure our members prosper, and so we shall make sure that happens. This issue has been brought up, as JoJo might be aware, so I will try to bring in others to help. Although the NIWA is going through an important landmark in its life, so that must be confronted first... I've never been that good at that kind of stuff, so I'll let the NIWA admins and others decided upon that while I help out here. Austin (NIWA Operative) 00:31, 11 September 2010 (BST)

Absolutely, the decline in activity is unacceptable. I've been inactive everywhere recently, with more pressing offline issues, a server upgrade at StrategyWiki, and trying to finalise a membership deal for SW with NIWA. As staff there, I would try to get some help from there, but I've heard the server upgrade had a few hitches, meaning that while the site is online, nobody can edit, as the DB is locked. Though, I'll also chip in what I can here. Also, if I may, I'm intrigued by the "important landmark in NIWA's life"... or is that perhaps too sensitive to share here? Moydow 01:05, 11 September 2010 (BST)
I'm glad we agree on the subject. Speaking about the "landmark", I do believe it is quite a sensitive subject to be shared in public. It's not that you are not trust worthy of hearing about it, but it is a subject which resides in the very core of the NIWA, and as such is being discussed by the staff. Austin (NIWA Operative) 01:18, 11 September 2010 (BST)
Ok. I understand. I can be a bit over-inquisitive at times, but it makes sense to keep an important topic private. Moydow 01:24, 11 September 2010 (BST)

NIWA section of main page

Looks like it could do with some updates and additions given the glut of new members! ~JoJo 16:42, 2 October 2010 (BST)

language

the British English setting is not entirly problem free. for one, the word "industrilization" is on the main page!-Lu-igi board didn't sign this message

Well, Category:Personal settings templates has what we have so far, feel free to create or suggest others. KC would have to do the text replace if you want all of the words changed at once, but you're welcome to dig in and make the changes. Axiomist 18:59, 16 October 2010 (BST)

Server Issues: FAO ALL EDITORS/READERS WHO HAVE SOME IDEA WITH MEDIAWIKI

I direct your collective attention to this topic on the forum. Discussion must be there as I need to act on this in the next 48 hours. ~JoJo 22:17, 19 October 2010 (BST)

  • Hurp, forgot to say this is more than resolved now. Thanks for all input, but it ended up being something else. :x ~JoJo 11:56, 27 October 2010 (BST)

Any chance of this not calling so many things at once?

Having just recoloured the main page template, I found myself suffering three instances of internal server errors - these occur when the server load is too high. I'm aware that for the main page to load, it calls a pretty significant number of templates, which then call templates themselves, and I imagine it's causing a significant server load.

Any chance of the main page being altered so that it isn't calling well over a dozen templates with each load? I really feel it's unnecessary, just for the sake of clean code. ~JoJo 12:30, 10 January 2011 (GMT)

I've just got the main template down to only calling 6 other templates. If there's anything you'd like changed, or changed back, just let me know. — KC 19:08, 10 January 2011 (GMT)
I daresay I can already see the difference in the load time. Thanks a bunch! ~JoJo 22:25, 10 January 2011 (GMT)
Not a problem. =) — KC 02:14, 11 January 2011 (GMT)

New NIWA Member

When someone gets a chance, can they add the new NIWA Member to the front page? Here it is, if you need it. Tacopill 01:22, 7 April 2014 (BST)

Please Update Nintendo Wiki

NIWA has decided to standardize the name as NintendoWiki, with no space. Please update the template to reflect this. Tacopill 22:26, 10 February 2013 (GMT)

Done. — KC 16:39, 11 February 2013 (GMT)
Thank you. Is there anything else on the wiki that needs to be updated to reflect this? Tacopill 01:24, 22 February 2013 (GMT)
Textreplace only showed a few other instances, and they've all been updated. — KC 13:24, 23 February 2013 (GMT)

Main Page Draft

I'm not sure if there's a reason why this isn't up yet, but any idea when this will be the official main page? Or has this project been scratched? I think it looks great. :] Dany36 17:46, 5 August 2010 (PDT)

Most of the work is now being done here: User:KC-Earthshaker/Sandbox. It's something of an effort to get what's on this page into a format similar to Bulbapedia's main page. That will probably become the main page before too long, I think it's just a case of waiting for JoJo's final approval. Moydow 18:04, 5 August 2010 (PDT)
Both look awesome, and they aren't even done yet. :) It is up to you, but I would think that working on the draft of the main page would be eaiser if it had it's own page (as in not in your sandbox). ...You wouldn't have to worry about the coding stored in all the templates and whatnot. Austin (NIWA Operative) 21:03, 5 August 2010 (PDT)
My bit is pretty much done. This was the original project, and Axiomist did a decent from-scratch job. I stepped in to help, and dug through the templates on Bulbapedia's Main Page to get the framework, and modified it to suit Wars Wiki. I made a few minor adjustments that JoJo suggested, and it's in something of a post-production phase now. It will probably be moved to Main Page shortly. — KC 21:19, 5 August 2010 (PDT)

How to gain access to adding Images to Pages?

I want to add new references to a wiki article: Game Boy Wars 3 but I am not allowed to(?). I'm new to the website and i stumbled upon the wiki and figured it was incomplete. So i added a few more sentences, titles except images. Please help? August 6, 2021 IST 8:50 PM

You should be able to do it right now. Are you getting an error? Check out the page mediawikiwiki:Help:Images on how to add images to pages. You'll need to upload them locally. -- Prod (talk) 15:46, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Oh wow, after adding a new section, I checked the messages to see most of them were 10 years behind. Didn't think anyone would see this, Thanks alot! Areaxis (talk) 06:25, 7 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]

(Talking about Wiki as a whole) Should we add trivia sections?

I feel as if we're losing the rivalry against the Advance Wars Fandom wiki, and I feel as if adding trivia sections to our Wars Wiki would help make it better. Plus, there are a lot of interesting tidbits about certain characters that might be interesting yet wouldn't fit elsewhere on the article. This is just a suggestion, however. Thanks in Advance, SamiStan (talk) 23:23, 6 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

I'm not sure I would particularly refer to it as a rivalry. I would be much more concerned about getting genuine content onto pages overall. We have a very large amount of pages that contain nothing but a single image and the infobox it is held in. If you can think of genuinely constructive trivia to add to a specific page, have at it, but I would steer clear of trying to shoehorn in that to every page. Trig - 10:26, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
If possible, trivia should be incorporated into the main sections. But sometimes trivia sections could be good for temporarily holding data. -- Prod (talk) 14:21, 7 February 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Re-Boot Camp images

I notice there is a lack of images from Re-Boot Camp on this wiki (as well as related CO images from AW1 and AW2). I'm not sure if there is any specific policy about which types of images are allowed to be uploaded, but I do have a growing collection of AWRBC CO, unit, and gallery images here: https://mega.nz/folder/UColBZrZ#6TB5cdwLQb8MjBbhavU5Ng

The CO images were uploaded to the Fandom wiki, though some of them had to be photoshopped out of the gallery wallpapers (I especially need a better image of Jess without the overlaying circle effects). I'm also still getting the unit images of Green Earth, Gold Comet, and Black Hole. - JFX (talk) 14:08, 29 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]

Wow! These look good to me. Thank you for this resource! I can upload them if you would like, or you should be able to as well using Special:Upload. Trig - 18:41, 30 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I do not have permission to upload images, or create new pages for the matter, so I guess you can upload the files to the wiki. - JFX (talk) 03:33, 31 May 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
