Andy is a Commanding Officer of the Orange Star army. He is widely regarded as the franchise's mascot, and takes the role of protagonist in both the original Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising.

Role

In Advance Wars

Andy, along with Sami and Max, travel throughout Cosmo Land in an attempt to learn why other nations have become hostile to Orange Star. When it is discovered that the attacks were launched by a clone of Andy, the other countries temporarily join forces against the common enemy. Andy leads the Orange Star troops into the final battle against Sturm, and is eventually able to drive Black Hole out of Cosmo Land.

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

Still a young and somewhat naive mechanic, Andy continues to work with fellow commanders Sami and Max to liberate Orange Star. Like Sami, Andy also offers aid to foreign nations later in the campaign, and may be selected by the player to command an army during the invasion of Black Hole.

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Andy makes no formal appearance in Advance Wars: Dual Strike. However, he is cloned again and sent to fight against the Allied Nations during the Omega Land war. Upon completion of the final mission, he is available for use in the Hard Campaign.

Personality

Andy is a bold and somewhat impulsive commander, always prepared for battle. Over the course of the series, he is often portrayed to be dim, due to his inquiries on basic subject matters. However, his questions help to familiarize the player with both the game's controls, and the ways of war.

Relationships

Andy has no deep relationships with other characters. He views Nell as a teacher, and is quick to help Sami and Max when their troops are in trouble. He holds a rivalry with Eagle, and maintains good relations with the other Orange Star officers.

Skills

Andy's skills as a mechanic grant him proficiency with all land, sea, and air units. His CO Powers primarily repair his units, restoring their Hit Points.

In Advance Wars

• CO Power: Hyper Repair — All units are restored 2 HP. 110% damage dealt and 90% damage taken by all units.

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

• CO Power: Hyper Repair — All units are restored 2 HP. (Standard +10% defense.)
• Super CO Power: Hyper Upgrade — All units are restored 5 HP. Andy's firepower becomes 120% and defense 100(+10)%. All units gain 1 movement.

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike

• Day-to-Day (D2D): No abilities.
• CO Meter:
• CO Power: Hyper Repair — All units are restored 2 HP. (Standard +10% firepower and defense.)
• Super CO Power: Hyper Upgrade — All units are restored 5 HP. Andy's firepower becomes 120(+10)% and defense 100(+10)%. All units gain 1 movement.
