Rain of Fire is the twenty-eighth mission of the Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising campaign, and the fourth of the Green Earth campaign. This is the first mission to introduce Volcanoes as a stage hazard.

Background

Hawke prepares his troops to move alongside the active volcano while Flak questions whether doing so is dangerous. Hawke responds that this is exactly the point: the volcano disrupts the air currents, preventing Green Earth from deploying their best units, the air force. Hawke then reprimands Flak for questioning his strategy when his own victory record leaves much to be desired. Lash, for her part, is amused by the damage the volcano will cause.

Drake and Eagle realize that an air assault is not possible with the active volcano nearby, so Jess takes charge with her land units for the mission. This leaves a frustrated Eagle, who acknowledges to Drake that it is the best decision, but still wants to vent about Jess taking charge without asking him.

During the mission, Eagle informs Jess that the volcano spews lava in a set pattern that she can use it to her advantage if she figures it out.

After the mission is over, Hawke admits defeat and retreats. Jess congratulates her troops for a job well done. Drake approaches Jess to congratulate her, while Eagle tells her to “continue not screwing up” and leaves before she can reply. Drake assures her that this is their fellow CO's way of complimenting her. Jess agrees that it is, but still wonders if his way of delivering it is necessary.
