Hello[edit source]

I just stumbled across Moydow's talk page, and wanted to offer my help with the [[MainPageDraftProject|Main Page overhaul]]. It's looking really good, but I'm here if you need me. =) — KC 16:39, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]

That'd be great! I have no clue what I'm doing really lol. I tried copying the format of ZW and it didn't work, then I tried the one from WiKirby and after some revising I got it to look decent, but it's a total sham. The boxes won't line up independent of the left or right sides as they would on any other wiki. TTE told me to rework it as a table to get the results of the BP mainpage, but I don't even know where to begin doing that. I've also looked for more flair images to put in headers, but I only have limited Wars knowledge. The actual DoR site gave me some ideas to use pics like barbwire or something. And lastly, I was wanting to pull a total SEO scam and have the games template on the page. I was thinking to rework it somehow, add an image to it, but basically have the links to all of the games. This would create a void of space, since it's rather small, so filling that would be needed too.Axiomist 17:55, 24 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
No problem, I'm happy to help! It's probably easiest to set it up similar to BP's Main Page, with no "exposed" text, just a handful of templates. That way, to update the News section, for example, you'd only need to add a bit to that individual template, rather than hunt through the page's code. I'm working through the templates BP uses on their page now to get some ideas. I like the barbed wire thing, I also considered looking for static DoR unit images, like some members in the Forums have. Ok, I'll be back! — KC 01:29, 25 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Hi again! If you check the Recent Changes, you'll see what I've ended up with for the "new & improved" Main Page. Check Template:Main Page and the subtemplates under Category:Main Page components, and let me know what you think. I also saved an example in my sandbox to demonstrate how it works. Any comments/suggestions appreciated! — KC 20:14, 27 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Wow! That's looking great! I don't know how you did it, but great job! Feel free to rip any styling bits I used on the draft I had to make it the Ultimate Main page. I'm pretty partial to the font and spanner for the Featured Article and Missions headers. But the important thing is that you got the framework down. It's the cleanest main page I've ever seen. Bulba once was the cleanest, but also the ugliest (well plain-est?) It would be up to JoJo, but aesthetics never hurt. Axiomist 02:34, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thanks! It's essentially a modified version of Bulbapedia's Main Page, but I tried to change it up enough so it wasn't so similar. It wasn't easy tracking down the right template from BP. I have nothing against the header stuff you had done (I liked the one with the stars), but I had never worked with the div.../div stuff, or the header tags. To get what I wanted, I had to use what I knew. Who knows, it may end up back in. JoJo had posted in the forums; I need to expand the box with the categories list (there is a little much blank space there), and flip the one star in the bottom box so that they both lead the eye to the center. Nothing major, both easily done. Then I think we have our new Main Page! =D — KC 13:24, 29 July 2010 (UTC)Reply[reply]
