This article is an official policy on Wars Wiki.

Its contents are binding and should be considered law.

Different members of Wars Wiki will have different abilities and tools depending on their user group. For a more complete list of rights and abilities, consult this page. To check what rights a user has, use this search.

Patrollers[edit source]

Patrollers act as an intermediate step between the average user and Administrator. While they can carry out some editing and protective functions, they cannot utilize the more permanent features like blocking users or editing protected pages.

Abilities of a Patroller[edit source]

  • Delete/undelete pages: They have the ability to delete unnecessary or spammy pages. Pages are usually not deleted unless they have no relevance.
  • Mark other edits as patrolled. This ensures that all edits to pages are constructive and useful for improving the site's content.
  • Patrollers may use Rollback to quickly undo edits by users, particularly in the case of spam or malicious editing.

Administrators[edit source]

Administrators are highly trusted editors of Wars Wiki. They are the ones considered to be on the staff of the wiki, and as such, are only the most valuable editors.

Abilities of an Administrator[edit source]

  • Protect/unprotect pages: Administrators can lock a page from editing if it is the subject of controversy and edit wars, or if it repeatedly vandalized. Note that administrators do not protect user pages. Please do not ask for this unless your user page is repeatedly vandalized.
  • Block/unblock users: If a user is deemed to be a vandal or is repeatedly creating conflicts and problems, an Administrator can block the user to prevent him or her from editing. Most blocks are temporary and depend on the length of the offense.
  • Hide revisions of a page which are inappropriate: Sometimes, vandals insert swears into articles or create other problems that are inappropriate for viewing. Administrators have the ability to hide these revisions in the history of the page.
  • Edit software pages: They have the ability to edit the pages with the Mediawiki prefix. These pages are sensitive, as they contain software information. Thus, only the most trusted users are given this privilege.
  • Rollback vandalism or problem edits: Administrators can quickly revert all revisions of a page by a certain user to the last edit made by the previous user. This is usually only used in cases of vandalism.
  • Patrol edits: Wikis have a system of checking edits known as patrolling. Administrators have the ability (and responsibility) to patrol all edits to make sure that they are of passing quality. Administrators also have their own edits automatically marked as patrolled.

Bureaucrats[edit source]

Bureaucrats have all of the same abilities as administrators except that they can also rename users. Bureaucrats are the ones in charge of running the wiki, and usually have full access to all back-end functions of it.

Bots[edit source]

Bots are automated systems to perform large-scale edits and changes. These accounts are usually hidden in the Recent Changes updates. Bots are not usually real people, and therefore contact should not be made to the bot account but rather the bot owner's.
