Editing Score

In the [[Advance Wars (series)|Advance Wars]] and [[Battalion Wars (series)|Battalion Wars]] games, you will often be given a '''score''' after a mission. Scores are granted following [[War Room]], [[Campaign]] and [[Survival]] maps.

==Criteria==
There are four factors affecting your score in each game - Speed, Power, Technique and (in [[Advance Wars: Dual Strike]] only), the number of emplacements or Oozium destroyed.

Each criteria is given a total possible score, which varies between games.
* In [[Advance Wars]]' Field Training and Campaign modes, a score isn't actually given, but a bar is shown displaying how well you performed at each category.
* In Advance Wars' War Room, the score bars are retained and used to determine a score between 0 and 999.
* In [[Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising]], each category is rated out of 100 and used to determine a total score out of 300. All points obtained are converted into 1 coin for purchasing additional content from Hachi.
* In Advance Wars: Dual Strike's Campaign and War Room modes, each category is still rated out of 100. However, bonus points can be obtained for destroying emplacements and Oozium. All points obtained are converted into 1 coin for purchasing additional content from Hachi, like in Black Hole Rising.
* In Advance Wars: Dual Strike's Survival modes, each category is rated out of 50. Bonuses from destroying emplacements and Oozium are still available. All points obtained are converted into 1 coin for purchasing additional content from Hachi.
* In [[Advance Wars: Days of Ruin]], each score ranges from 0 to 150. Any category where at least 100 points is scored is highlighted in Gold.
* In the Battalion Wars games, each score is rated as a percentage, with your overall score being the average of your Speed, Power and Technique scores.

It should be noted that the only game which outright tells you what you need to do to obtain maximum points is [[Battalion Wars 2]].

===Speed===
Speed is the most straightforward criteria. Each mission has a set amount of turns (par time) in which you must beat the mission in order to score the maximum number of points. Each turn you go over the limit, you lose points. The general formula in Advance Wars is as follows, rounded up and capped at 100, then multiplied by 5 in AW1:

In Days of Ruin, the speed score starts at 150 and begins to decrease when half the par time has elapsed. The formula for times completed before the par time is as follows, rounded up and capped at 150: <math>200-100 \times Completion Time / Par Time</math>. Once the par time is reached, the speed score decreases from 100 at the same rate as in AW1+2. 

In the Battalion Wars games, this is instead measured in real time, but you still lose points if you take too long to beat a mission. In Battalion Wars 2, the formula is as follows capping at 100%:

===Power===
Power is how well you destroy the enemy force. In games before Days of Ruin, you need to destroy 10% of the total enemy force in one day to max your Power score. In Days of Ruin, you need to maximize the damage you deal on each attack and manage a KO in as many attacks as feasible.

Pre-Days of Ruin formula is as follows, capping at 100 and then multiplied by 2 in AW1:
(Maximum Enemies Destroyed in 1 Day * 10) * 100 / (Total Enemies)

DoR formula is as follows, averaging with 100 if exceeding that and capping at 150:
(Total non-luck damage done * 2 + Destroyed Enemies * 200) / (Total attack count) - 100

This is much simpler in the Battalion Wars series, where you simply have to destroy any and all enemy units that count for Power.

===Technique===
Technique is a rating determined on the total number of your units vs. the amount of your lost units in combat. The fewer units you lose, the higher your score. Days of Ruin also causes Technique to go down if too many units are built.

Pre-Days of Ruin formula is as follows, capping at 100 and then multiplied by 3 in AW1:
[(Total Units - Lost Units) * 100 / (Total Units)] + Mode bonus; Mode bonus is generally 20. It is 100 in AW1 Advance Campaign, so any unit losses do not affect Technique there.

Days of Ruin formula is as follows, averaged with 100 if it surpasses 100:
[(Enemy Remaining Units + Enemy Destroyed Units) * 125 / (Player Built/Predeployed Units + Player Lost Units)]

In the Battalion Wars games, technique is determined by how many units you lost vs. how many you started with and had added to your battalion (either via reinforcements or liberating POWs). You can keep your technique score topped up by carrying out secondary objectives.

===Destruction bonuses===
In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, you can earn additional points by destroying enemy Oozium units and emplacements. These points do not affect your rank directly (though destroying Oozium can help you increase your Power score) - it is possible to use these bonuses to score over 280 points and still not obtain an S-rank, for example. You can gain:

* 5 points per [[Pipe Seam]].
* 10 points per [[Minicannon]].
* 20 points per [[Black Crystal]].
* 30 points per [[Black Cannon]].
* 30 points per [[Black Obelisk]].
* 40 points per [[Oozium]].

==Rank==
Your score determines your rank. In the first Advance Wars, you could obtain an S, A, B, C, D or E rank, with S being highest and E being lowest. From Advance Wars 2 onwards, the D and E ranks were cut, meaning that you could obtain only S, A, B or C ranks.

* S-Rank: The highest rank. Obtaining one is a symbol of excellent strategical and tactical play. You couldn't obtain S ranks in Advance Wars' Field Training missions. The minimum points needed for an S-rank are:
** 950 in Advance Wars 1
** 280 in Advance Wars 2 and Advance Wars: Dual Strike (not including destruction bonuses)
** 300 in Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.
** 95% in the Battalion Wars games
* A-Rank: The highest score in the first Advance Wars' Field Training missions, a highly respectable rank elsewhere.
* B-Rank: A middling rank, usually a sign that the player has a decent understanding of the game but needs to improve somewhat.
* C-Rank: The lowest rank in most games.
* D-Rank: The second-lowest rank in the first Advance Wars.
* E-Rank: The lowest rank in the first Advance Wars. Most players never obtained this rank, but it generally denotes a victory that was very inefficient.
