Wiki
If you have any questions to ask with regards to this project, your first port of call for a quick response should be the [http://forums.warscentral.com/index.php?showforum=31 Wars Wiki Forum at WC]. I say this because that is where the vast majority of my spare time is spent, so any questions will be seen relatively quickly there. ~[[User:JoJo|JoJo (Admin)]] 11:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

== Undecided conventions ==
No such special page
There doesn't really seem to be lots of order here :), so I want to ask some questions of conventions and things we need to decide about. Here's a start:
* [[Infantry (unit type)]] vs. "unit class" ([[Vehicle]]) vs. [[Ship (defensive class)]]
* Unit pages uses both "tread" and "Tread" for movement classes, and the ship movement class is called "Ships" for some reason. Why plural?
* I think [[Infantry (unit)]] should be moved to [[Infantry]], since that is (by far, IMO) the main usage of the term/word (in AW contexts, of course). Perhaps [[Vehicle]] should be moved to [[Vehicle (unit type)]] (or whatever we decide to call it) anyway, for consistency.
* Speaking of page titles, we have <s>[[Advance Wars (series)]], but I think</s> [[Advance Wars (series)]] <s>would be more proper, no?</s>
* "[[Medium Tank]]", but also "[[B Copter]]"? Also, [[Battle Helicopter]] redirects to [[B Copter]], but not [[Battle Copter]] (as of now). Also, I think [[Rocket]] should be pluralised (or maybe I'm just remembering wrong, was a while since I last played an AW game).
~ [[User:FireFly|FireFly]] 09:21, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
: Also, I took the freedom to rework one of the damage chart images into a wiki table, since after all, it ''is'' a wiki, and it ''is'' undoable. I think it should be done to the rest of them too, but I don't feel like doing it right now, and perhaps it's good to have some consensus before applying it to all of them. Anyway, what do others think of it? ~ [[User:FireFly|FireFly]] 09:25, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
: Adding with even more: We really need categories for [[Special:UncategorizedImages|all these images]]. Also, I think it would be nice with (small) images for each unit (presumably in red?), to be used next to unit names, a bit like the miniature pokémon sprites of Bulbapedia. Perhaps even a utility template, so that you can do something like <nowiki>{{unit|Infantry}}</nowiki>, and get sprite + linked name? ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] [[User talk:FireFly|t]][[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]] 09:43, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

::I think we should use [[Advance Wars (series)]], I think it looks better that way. We should probably use the full name on a unit's page (Medium Tank vs Md Tank, Battle Copter vs B Copter), with redirects to handle other "nicknames". I like your idea to mimic Bulbapedia's mini sprites; I can probably write up a template for it, but I don't know how to rip the sprites for that... — [[User:KC-Earthshaker|'''K''']][[User Talk:KC-Earthshaker|<span style="color:#7038F8">'''<small>C</small>'''</span>]] 11:10, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

:::I can probably cut out sprites from the screenshots already uploaded here, and give them transparent backgrounds. Actually, I think I'll do that now. ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] [[User talk:FireFly|t]][[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]] 11:31, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

:::::Thank you. That's a start, anyway. ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] <sup>[[User talk:FireFly|t]]</sup><sub style="margin-left:-4px">[[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]]</sub> 12:15, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

:::::For the record, the names used for units in AW:DS (on the info screen when you hover over a unit, so there's certainly no need to keep down on the length) are: Infantry, Mech, Recon, Tank, Md Tank, Neotank, Megatank, APC, Artillery, Rockets, Anti-Air, Missiles, Piperunner, Oozium, Fighter, Bomber, B Copter, T Copter, Stealth, Black Bomb, Battleship, Cruiser, Lander, Sub, Black Boat, Carrier. I think we should use these names for the article, as I'd say they are the most official. Don't know if the names are changed in DoR though. ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] [[User talk:FireFly|t]][[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]] 08:01, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

::::::The names were changed for DoR, and confusingly, some were also different to those used in DC- the European release of the same game. The names used in AWDS are the same as AW1 and AW2, and these are used as standard by the majority that I know of, so you're right in saying they're the most "official"- they were around without change from 2000/2001 - 2005. ~[[User:JoJo|JoJo]] 11:18, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

== The "wikitable" table class ==
The CSS class "wikitable", being used on wikipedia for those neat, grey tables, doesn't seem available here? I don't know if it's nonstandard mediawiki or something, but it'd be really useful. I haven't checked Bulbapedia in a while, but I think they use it too. ~ [[User:FireFly|FireFly]] 09:21, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
: Hrm, actually, it seems Bulbapedia don't use it, but instead resort to a header-/entry-/footer template model (looking at how their learnlists works). I think we could use [[:Template:Unitlist/header]], [[:Template:Unitlist/entry]] and [[:Template:Unitlist/footer]], perhaps? What other lists are often used in AW contexts? ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] [[User talk:FireFly|t]][[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]] 10:42, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
::It's been a while since I played an Advance Wars game, but maybe we could use the same setup for terrain (Factory, Airport, Port, etc)? {{unsigned|KC-Earthshaker}}

:::Right, why didn't I think of that? Anyway, yes, should work well. ~[[User:FireFly|FireFly]] <sup>[[User talk:FireFly|t]]</sup><sub style="margin-left:-4px">[[Special:Contributions/FireFly|c]]</sub> 12:15, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

== Priorities ==
Firstly, many thanks to all those who are contributing to the project, your help is much appreciated as I've said elsewhere!<br>
Now, I see that two of you in particular are hammering out templates right now, which is wonderful to see- admittedly the rest of us had little to no idea on how to get them to work effectively, so many thanks for working on those!

For those wishing to work on content, I ask that campaign mission pages are left untouched, as there is one person who is working on them whenever he has chance ([[User:Mextex|Mextex]]). However, articles on the early games such as [[Famicom Wars]] and [[Game Boy Wars]] could do with some attention, as could articles on added game play modes such as [[Turn Survival]] and such in [[Advance Wars: Dual Strike]]. There is a topic covering this on the Forum ([http://forums.warscentral.com/index.php?showtopic=3170 here]), so if you're about to embark on some new page creation, if you're unsure if somebody is already working on it your best bet would be to ask on there. ~[[User:JoJo|JoJo]] 11:28, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

== Names in other languages ==
First of all, I apologize if this isn't the right place to post this...new member here. :P Anyway, I've noticed that some articles (like [[Jake]] and [[Rachel]]) seem to have the Japanese names of those characters in the introduction paragraph of the page. [[Andy]] used to have it as well, but then I saw that the character infoboxes have a field for the names in other languages...so it's pretty inconsistent. Now, I'm all for having the names in other languages inside the infobox, but right now it looks pretty weird...(see Andy page)...as in...too much blank space left around the word. Other wikis like Mario Wiki and Bulbapedia put this information in table-format at the bottom of the page (see [http://www.mariowiki.com/Gusty_Garden_Galaxy#Names_in_other_Languages Gusty Garden Galaxy] and [http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Misty#Names Misty]). Zelda Wiki does this as well, except instead of it being put in a section of the page, the table is just a template at the bottom of the article (see [http://zeldawiki.org/Byrne Byrne]).

At any rate, whichever choice is made, I think what is most important now is consistency. Should the names in other languages be left in the infobox, or should they be placed in a table at the bottom of articles? I admit that there already enough tables as is in some articles, but well...just trying to see which one will be the preferred method of this wiki. :) [[User:Dany36|Dany36]] 17:34, 31 July 2010 (UTC)

==NIWA wikis==
I think we should delete all these pages except [[Wars Wiki:About]]. They will always be out of date and the information is available elsewhere more up to date. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 19:30, 14 February 2018 (UTC)
:It looks like some of the information here may be unique, as Wars Wiki was one of the earliest members of NIWA. -- [[User:Prod|Prod]] ([[User talk:Prod|talk]]) 05:58, 18 February 2018 (UTC)

==Mobile System GB==
A group known as the Gameboy Online Restoration Project are data-mining the games that supported the [[Mobile System GB]]. Their priority is Japanese Pokémon Crystal at the moment, but they are working on gathering as much information as possible. Shonumi, a member, acquired a scan of the Game Boy Wars 3 manual which is available [https://archive.org/details/GW3_Manual here]. Of course, anyone who has a complete Game Boy Wars 3 has this already; but wanted to share this here as felt it would be useful. ^^ [[User:Torchickens|Torchickens]] ([[User talk:Torchickens|talk]]) 09:05, 18 August 2019 (UTC)
