After two major defeats, the Imperial Empress was done playing around. Forced to fall back to the Old Xylvania borders, she mustered every available unit that she had left, specifically Battleships and Gunships, to assault the Iron Lord's Quad Cannons. These two cannons formed much of Lord Ferrok's coastal defences, and destroying them would give the Imperial forces a much-needed victory. However, the Legion forces were able to reclaim a Solar-held Airbase nearby, which allowed Lord Ferrok to manufacture Fighter and Bomber support near the coast. Even with a will of steel, the Imperial forces were all but defeated.

Despite the fact that all seemed to be going well for Lord Ferrok, the tide of war would soon turn against him. Overconfident, he gathered his Legion forces at the Iron Tower, his personal stronghold, in order to resupply his units. Little did he know that a single Solar Grunt was able to survive the onslaught at the beach. This lone soldier met up with a handful of others that had survived the beach assault, and stumbling across the Staff of Qa-Len, made their way to the Iron Tower. Imbued with the staff's power, the new Staff Bearer was able to not only inflict massive damage against the Legion forces they met on their way, but the staff also acted as a shield, minimizing damage taken. Reaching the tower, the group secretly climbed to the roof, where they activated the staff, the Solar doomsday device. The staff sent a signal to an orbiting Solar satellite, which absorbed the sun's rays with its solar panels, and focused them into an intense beam. The satellite took aim at wherever the signal was received from, and so set its sights on the Iron Tower. In a single, powerful blast, the intense solar energy obliterated the Iron Tower, killed Lord Ferrok, and decimated his Iron Legion. The resulting shock wave carved a massive crater in the earth where the tower once stood, and would come to be known as the Crater of the Sun. Those Legion units that were not immediately destroyed would be frozen in stone for the next 200 years, when a desperate Countess Ingrid would unleash them once again.

*The term "Lightning War" is a well-known German phrase, blitzkrieg. This may be a reference to the fact that the Iron Legion's Old Xylvania would, in the present day, resemble Germany.

*Despite the fact that these wars took place 200 years ago, the Solar Empire used the same advanced technology that they do in the present day.
