Game Boy Wars 2 was released exclusively in Japan on 20th November 1998, and featured gameplay similar to the preceding Game Boy Wars and Game Boy Wars TURBO games.

There were some differences, for instance akin to TURBO, the AI had been improved on, and new maps were featured, as well as utilising the Game Boy hardware better. Additionally, the Artillery B unit was removed without reason, but most important of all, Game Boy Wars 2 was the first Game Boy Wars game to work properly with the Game Boy Color.
