Game Boy Wars TURBO was released in Japan on June 24, 1997. The main new feature was that the CPU had access to an upgraded decision-making algorithm during its turns, which allowed battle to progress more quickly than in the original game. 50 new maps were also included. Like other early Nintendo Wars games, it was never released outside of Japan.

The main version of the game was released in a special promotional tin.
