Woods are a somewhat common terrain. They are more difficult to traverse than plains but offer better terrain cover.

In-depth

Woods give two terrain stars in Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike, wheras they give three stars in Advance Wars: Days of Ruin.

In Fog of War, units can hide in woods and can be revealed either by an enemy unit moving up to them, or by Sonja or Lin's CO Powers. In Days of Ruin, an enemy unit can reveal a unit hidden in woods by merely moving past them.

In Advance Wars 2, Lash's ground units get a 20% attack boost in woods. In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Lash's ground units get a 10% attack boost in woods.

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, there are two skill ranks that affect woods. The "Ranger" skill increases unit attack power on woods tiles by 10%, and the Pathfinder skill reduces a CO's movement costs to 1 over woods.
