This article is an official policy on Wars Wiki.

Its contents are binding and should be considered law.

A talk page is a built-in part of MediaWiki software that allows a wiki's users to discuss an article. Talk pages are found at (namespace name) talk:(page name) — for example, the talk page for the orange policy template at the top of this page is located at Template talk:Policy. Talk pages are commonly used in the userspace to let users convey comments quickly between one-another. Every user has an accompanying talk page. All the rules that apply to mainspace talk pages also apply for user talk pages as well.

Talk pages on Wars Wiki are typically meant for discussion on an article, template, or image. They may be used to ask a question about a certain aspect of an article, point out if a template on the page is not working correctly, or discuss the article itself. Please remember that a talk page is not a forum — any comments irrelevant to the article may be removed. Old comments will be archived, however, replies to comments over 6 months old will be removed.

How to use a talk page

When posting on a talk page, all new comments belong at the bottom of the page. This ensures that the discussion is kept in chronological order. Please keep all comments civil, and treat all users with respect. Remember to type four tildes (~~~~) after your comment, which will leave your name and a timestamp; this lets other users know who left that message without having to read through the page's history. Also, when replying to another user's comment, add colons (:) to the beginning of your comment to indent it, making it easier to pick out on a page. The number of colons used should be one greater than that used in the previous comment, however, resetting the indent is allowed if the indent would push the comment too far to the right side of the page.

When another user leaves a message on your user talk page, please be courteous and respond to them. Add your reply underneath the message, on the same talk page. Splitting a discussion between two different pages is unnecessary and annoying.

Please refrain from editing any previous comments. A comment should be left exactly as the writer left them, regardless of spelling or grammar errors. If, however, the comment contains a broken link, the user reading it is allowed to delete the brackets ([[]]) and leave the original text within, to prevent it from appearing on the Wanted Pages list.

Deleting comments and archiving

Talk pages should never be blanked, and no comments should be removed (including the welcome message) by anyone, unless the only content is offensive or spam. Rather than deleting all information on a talk page, they should be archived instead. An administrator will archive most talk pages when necessary, but archiving a user's talk page is left to that user. When archiving, the entire page must be moved at once in order to preserve the edit history. By copying and pasting, or by moving sections of text at a time, the edit history timeline is broken.

To archive your user talk page, go to the top of the page and click on the "Move" tab. Enter the new title, type "Archiving" for the reason, and click the Move button. The preferred location to move your talk page is User:(username)/(archive number). So for a user named User:Eagle to archive his talk page, he would move it from User talk:Eagle to User talk:Eagle/Archive 1. When the talk page was filled again, further archiving would move the second page of text to User talk:Eagle/Archive 2, etc.
