Laboratories (more commonly referred to as Labs) act as the research centers for Black Hole. They only appear on seven maps.

In-depth[edit | edit source]

Labs give three terrain stars.

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising and Advance Wars: Dual Strike, certain missions have a map hidden in a city. If the Allied Nations capture that city, a secret mission is unlocked which, if won, will allow the Allied Nations to build a new weapon.

In Black Hole Rising, these missions were Test of Time, Neotanks?!, Sea of Hope and Danger X9. Winning these missions granted access to Neotanks for Orange Star, Blue Moon, Yellow Comet and Green Earth respectively. Each had to be won in a set amount of turns.

The lab missions in Dual Strike were The Long March (which unlocked Black Boats), Lash's Test (which unlocked Black Bombs) and Spiral Garden (which unlocked Piperunners). Unlike in Black Hole Rising, these missions had no turn limit.

In Black Hole Rising, Lash's ground units get a 30% attack boost on a lab. In Dual Strike, this is reduced to 15% whereas Kindle's ground and air units get a 40% attack boost while on labs.
