Submarine units are direct combat submarines. Their purpose is to attack ships and other submarines. They have appeared in all installments of the Advance Wars series so far. They have their own defensive type and, prior to Advance Wars: Dual Strike, were the only units to do so. They now share that honor with the Oozium.

Submarines have the ability to dive underwater. While doing so, they consume more fuel but can only be attacked by Cruisers and other submarines.
