Colin (Japanese: イワン Ewan) is a Commanding Officer from Blue Moon. He is a new recruit in the second game in the series, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, joining Olaf and Grit. He is the first Blue Moon CO to not be a defector from Orange Star, unlike Olaf and Grit.

Role

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

Colin joins the Blue Moon army while the country has been invaded by Black Hole forces under the command of Lash. He has to fight her on at least two occasions. During one, Two-Week Test, he is greatly outnumbered by Lash and he is only able to defeat her because of his skill with money. When Blue Moon is liberated, Colin joins in as a playable CO for the final missions of the game.

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Colin and his sister Sasha arrive as reinforcements for the Orange Star contingency early on in the game. He can be used for every mission thereafter that allows the player to select a CO.

Personality

Colin has a timid personality, and is often insecure about his abilities. He looks up to authority, and is fiercely loyal to Olaf and Grit.

Relationships

Besides looking up for Olaf or Grit for examples, his sister Sasha is also a person of great importance for him.

Skills

Colin hails from a rich family, and as such, is quite skilled with money. Because of his inexperience, however, his troops suffer from an offense penalty in combat.

• CO Meter:
• CO Power: Gold Rush — Colin's current funds are increased by 50%. (Standard +10% defense.)
• Super CO Power: Power of Money — Colin's firepower rises by 1% for every 300G funds he has available at the time of the power's activation. (Standard +10% defense.)

Strategy

Contrary to his lack of self-esteem, Colin is among the strongest COs in every game he appears in. While his universal firepower reduction can prove troublesome in certain scenarios, his production cost discount more than makes up for this. He can easily afford more expensive, powerful units to compensate for his lower firepower. His CO Power, Gold Rush, is infamous for how easily it helps Colin accumulate money. Its extremely cheap cost combined with its multiplicative effect on current funds means that Colin can quickly gain Funds from multiple Gold Rushes or he can abstain from spending money to receive an even bigger return investment. This kind of economy allows Colin to produce swarms of incredibly high-end units like Megatanks and Bombers, which nearly every CO simply cannot handle.

His Super CO Power is much more situational compared to Gold Rush, but Power of Money can make way for a game-ending offensive after Colin has gathered enough Funds, possibly from prior Gold Rushes. Regardless, its drastically higher cost compared to Gold Rush often pushes it to the wayside except in the most dire of circumstances.

In Dual Strike, aside from his excellent firepower boost with Sasha, Colin is also an excellent tag partner for Kanbei. Colin can purchase units at his discounted costs before swapping to Kanbei, allowing Kanbei to boost the units with his superior stats without suffering the drawback of his higher deployment costs.

Trivia

• Colin's physical appearance and gameplay abilities are heavily based on Billy Gates from Super Famicom Wars.
• In Advance Wars 2, Power of Money does not provide a visual indication of how much firepower Colin's units have while it is active.
  • This is changed in Dual Strike, as the firepower increase of Colin's units will be displayed in his CO dossier while Power of Money is active (the bar does not increase beyond 100% firepower).
