— Mission introduction

Border Skirmish is the second (first in Hard Campaign) mission of the Advance Wars 2 Campaign. The player acts as Sami, an Orange Star CO who was introduced in the previous mission.

Background

Before the mission begins, a Black Hole soldier mentions that Orange Star forces have been sighted, to which Flak responds by sending out the Tanks while engaging in a monologue that portrays him as a fan of the unit.

An Orange Star soldier mentions that enemy units have been spotted on the far side of the river, which surprises Sami as the area is so rural. She still orders a counter-attack, as Black Hole can't be allowed to gain a foothold so deep into Orange Star territory. Nell praises the move, saying it is a good assessment that shows Sami's qualities as a special-forces commander. Nell says she's there to track down the COs who are invading Orange Star, and leaves the battle to her subordinate.

Meanwhile, Black Hole has noticed Orange Star's presence, and Flak orders his grunts to begin capturing cities, something which he views as hard work. The funds are needed for the invasion however, and he starts to explain the basics of capturing. A turn later, Flak once again shows his reliance on primal instincts; he mentions that Orange Star is a good country for having two female COs, a reason why he "must have it".

After the battle he is shown as a sore loser, leaving Sami infuriated and Nell indignant.
