Kanbei is a Commanding Officer enlisted in the Yellow Comet army. He is the emperor of Yellow Comet and the leader of its' forces in Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. Sensei taught him everything he knows about battling. His boldness and inability to use technology is often contrasted with his daughter Sonja's shyness and technical ability for comic relief.

In Re-Boot Camp, he presents a gunbai in his CO Power animation.
