Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Guide on StrategyWiki

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a 2023 turn-based strategy game developed by WayForward Technologies and published by Nintendo. It is a remake of the first two titles in the Advance Wars series: Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising.

Re-Boot Camp was originally slated to be released for Nintendo Switch on December 3, 2021, but was later delayed. It was then set to release on April 8, 2022,[1][2][3] but was further delayed to an unknown date due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.[4][5] It finally released on April 21, 2023 in the February Nintendo Direct.[6]

Game modes

See Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising.

Units

Re-Boot Camp features the same roster of units from the original Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising.

Commanding Officers

See Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, with the addition of Clone Andy.

Changes from the original games

  • Full animations are added, both in-game and cutscene.
  • Full voice work is added, though not all dialogue text is voiced.
  • Yellow Comet has been renamed to Gold Comet.
  • Drake's Tsunami CO Power has been renamed to Squall.
  • Dialogue text and plot points in the campaigns of both Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2 have been changed:
    • At the end of Sami's Debut!, if Sami was picked, instead of Eagle commenting that he cannot believe he lost to a girl, he says that he loses again to an inexperienced lot.
    • Kanbei's Imperial Forces is renamed to Kanbei's Elite Forces.
    • In the three Yellow Comet missions in the original Advance Wars campaign against Sonja, she drugs Andy and Max to sleep to split up the Orange Star forces. In Re-Boot Camp, Sonja instead confuses the Orange Star COs by giving them misleading directions and distracting Andy with a hologram.
  • Numerous changes to the original Advance Wars' campaign:
    • You can now replay missions at any time.
    • After you complete the regular campaign, the other branches and hidden missions are unlocked.
    • Unlocking the mission Rivals requires completing all of the missions.
    • You can select COs in certain missions, including the final mission.
  • The Two-Week Test bug where Colin can win the map by doing nothing[7] is now fixed where Colin will now lose.[8]

Bugs found

  • Generating Extra Funds during Day 1. The bug is repeatable.[9]
  • Enemy direct combat units attacking indirectly in Fog of War.[10][11]
