Nell

Nell (Japanese: キャサリン Kyasarin; Catherine) is the Commander-in-Chief of Orange Star forces, presumably succeeding Hachi. She appears in the first three games of the Advance Wars series, acting as a mentor and leader to her subordinates.

Role

In Advance Wars

Nell directs the player through Field Training to help the player become accustomed to the game's mechanics and controls. During the campaign, she will offer intel and tips to the player to help complete the mission.

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

Nell continues to lead Orange Star, though she plays a relatively minor role in the campaign. She will make appearances in dialogue and often is responsible for sending reinforcements to other nations.

In Advance Wars: Dual Strike

Nell's younger sister, Rachel, is in command of Orange Star forces in Omega Land. As a result, Nell only makes cameo appearances. She sends her regards and reinforcements to help the war effort.

Personality

Nell follows suit with the rest of the Orange Star COs, being prepared and caring. She is a confident, yet patient leader, evident in dialogue. Nell acts as a mentor to both Andy and Max, and she guides Sami when needed.

Relationships

Nell holds a grudge, particularly against Olaf, and to some extent Grit. While plot details are unknown, the two Blue Moon COs were once part of Orange Star, but defected. She holds loyalty to her nation and holds good relations with her fellow commanders. It is hinted that both Andy and Max are also quite fond of her.

Skills

Nell has no skills but rather is lucky in combat. Her CO Powers enhance this ability, making it possible for her to deal more damage than expected.

In Advance Wars

• Day-to-Day (D2D): Nell's units can inflict up to +20% luck damage instead of the standard +10%.
• CO Meter: 30,000G
• CO Power: Lucky Star — Nell's luck damage increases up to +60%. 110% damage dealt and 90% damage received by all units.

In Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising

• Day-to-Day (D2D): Nell's units can inflict up to +20% luck damage instead of the standard +10%.
• CO Meter:
• CO Power: Lucky Star — Nell's luck damage increases up to +60%. (Standard +10% defense.)
• SCO Power: Lady Luck — Nell's luck damage increases up to +100%. (Standard +10% defense.)

Trivia

• Nell's age is listed as unknown in the Nintendo DREAM strategy guide for Game Boy Wars Advance 1+2.
• In Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, when discussing Nell, Hachi will mention that her mother is also lucky and had a beauty mark in the exact same spot but her younger sister does not, not only referencing Rachel but also implying that their mother is Caroline from Super Famicom Wars.
