Max (Japanese: マックス Makkusu; Max) is a direct combat specialist enlisted in the Orange Star army. He is a confrontational Commanding Officer who plays a prominent role in the campaign. If selected, he debuts in the fourth mission of Advance Wars.

Notably, he is one of the few characters to have the same name in every language edition of the games, along with Hachi, Rachel, Sasha, and Lin.

Role

Max is a loyal companion to both Andy and Sami. In stark contrast to both Nell and Sami, Max is aggressive and can be considered the brawn out of the three. Like his colleagues, he is available for use during the final push against Sturm in both Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2.

Personality

Max is a fearless, masculine hero. While not being especially bright, he is devoted to his cause and his fellow COs. He often finds himself in arguments, especially when offended by his adversaries or allies. Like Sami and Andy, he is always prepared as well.

Relationships

Max maintains good relations with other COs in and outside of Orange Star.

Skills

Max's forte lies in non-infantry direct-combat units, while his weakness is with indirect-combat units.

In Advance Wars

• Day-to-Day (D2D): Max's non-infantry direct-combat units deal 150% damage. However, his indirect-combat units suffer from -1 range, deal only 90% damage and receive an increased 110% damage.
• CO Meter: 30,000G
• CO Power: Max Force — Max's non-infantry direct-combat and transport units gain 1 movement and receive a damage boost. Max's universal stats become 110% damage dealt and 90% damage received, which translates to 187% (170% x 110%) damage dealt with non-infantry direct-combat units and 99% (90% x 110%) damage dealt with and 99% (110% x 90%) damage received by indirect-combat units.

In Advance Wars 2

• Day-to-Day (D2D): Max's non-infantry direct-combat units have 120% firepower and his indirect-combat units have 90% firepower and 1 range penalty.
• CO Meter:
• CO Power: Max Force — Max's non-infantry direct-combat units gain 1 movement and raise their firepower to 140%. (Standard +10% defense.)
• Super CO Power: Max Blast — Max's non-infantry direct-combat units gain 2 movement and raise their firepower to 160%. (Standard +10% defense.)

In Advance Wars Dual Strike

• Day-to-Day (D2D): Max's non-infantry direct-combat units have 120% firepower and his indirect-combat units have 1 range penalty.
• CO Meter:
• CO Power: Max Force — Max's non-infantry direct-combat units raise their firepower to 150(+10)%. (Standard +10% firepower and defense.)
