Pvt. Hazard is a Western Frontier grunt, who got lost in the middle of a minefield laid by Kommandant Ubel.

'Saving Pvt. Hazard' is a secondary objective in Scorched Earth. He must be rescued from an Xylvanian minefield located outside Gorgisburg by sending an infantry unit into the field and guiding him out. After Hazard is safe outside the minefield, the secondary objective is completed. There is no need for him to survive after he is rescued.

Dossier Intel[edit | edit source]

"In an uncharacteristically sentimental move, General Herman green-lit a special operation headed by Brigadier Betty. The mission: to pull Infantryman Hazard from the front line and send him home to his grief-stricken mother."[1]

Strategy[edit | edit source]

Although he is on your side (if you decide to save him), he can easily die. Of course, you can take Gorgi's word for it: "Ubel has laid a mine field somewhere in this sector. Avoid it at all costs!"

However, if you do decide to go into the field, your infantry will NOT follow you. Only your Artillery will, and if your Artillery triggers a mine just once, it bites the dust. You can though set your battalion on wait mode and go in as a lone soldier, but it is still not easy, as mines are hidden under mounds of earth, and triggering one instantly kills the unit. Be sure not to trigger a mine with Private Hazard following, or Private Hazard will be caught in the blast, instantly killing him and failing the secondary objective.

Quotes[edit | edit source]

If Private Hazard dies inside the minefield: Looks like Private Hazard bit the big One, Commander. What will I tell his mother? - Brigadier Betty

Before you go looking for pvt. Hazard: One of my men got lost in the mine field. If you go looking for him, stay as far away from those mounds of earth as possible. -Brigadier Betty

Trivia[edit | edit source]

  • Due to his rank and situation, Hazard may be a reference to the 1998 film Saving Private Ryan.
